New Members reception at Island Lutheran
Island
Lutheran Church welcomed new members on March 9th
with a reception in Graudin Fellowship Hall. Diane Cass
transferred her membership to us and is presently working as a paralegal for a law firm in
Savannah. Nicole Solaro also transferred her membership here and works for the
city of Hilton Head. Her husband Jon completed the adult information class and
became a member by affirmation of faith. He works as a pastry chef at Tidepoint.
They have two baptized children, Isabella and Tyler.
Psalm 102:25-26 "In the beginning You laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing You will change them and they will be discarded."
By Pastor Hollis
Prior to 1980, travelers to
the National Park around Mount St. Helens, would have seen a majestic, dormant
volcano. But on May 18th, 1980 in the course of a few short hours, Mount St.
Helens erupted and
"changed her clothes" forever. Our world can change
drastically in but a short time! May 18, 1980, and September 11, 2001 stand as
evidence to that.
The world is constantly changing, but God Himself never changes. What He did do, however, was to work a miraculous change in us by removing our sin.
No less powerful than a volcanic eruption, God moved heaven and earth to remove our sin. Literally. for when Jesus died, the earth quaked and the sun darkened. The earth quaked again when the stone was rolled away and Jesus Christ was resurrected.
The blood of Jesus removes our sin. The "old clothes" of our sin are gone forever. The "new clothes" of Jesus' righteousness are now ours forever.

From the Sunday School Superintendent, Lois Holscher
As promised
earlier, we will provide, every month, the lessons which Pre-K through High
School students will study. For April:
April 6th "Jesus Appears on the Emmaus Road" Luke 24:13-35
April 13th "The Good Shepherd" John 10:1-18
April 20th "Peter and John Heal the Lame Man" Acts 3
April 27th "God's Servant, Stephen" Acts 6-7
Suggestion: Why not read these portions of the Bible sometime each Saturday,
with the entire family?? "The GOSPEL is the POWER of God unto SALVATION to all
who believe---." Rom.1:1
An Interview with Jen and Bob Nette by Jewel Graner
Jen and Bob, where are you from and what bought you to Hilton Head and ILC?
We are from Michigan and Virginia. We first visited the island in 1969 to check out Hilton Head. We returned several times, and in 1973 bought a Heritage Villa in Harbor Town. At that time, we vacationed only two weeks each year and attended Christ Lutheran Church. In 1994, we sold the villa, bought a fixer-upper and made this our "permanent home." If you don't believe me, just drop in to Six Oaks Cemetery in Sea Pines, observe the American Flag, hang a left until you "spot" a wall that have our names "etched" on it.
How many children, grandchildren do you have and where are they?
We have two married sons; Curt is married to Janice and has three sons, Alex, Kyle & Daniel. They live in Falls Church, VA. Mike is married to Patty and has two children, Karl & Kate. They live in South Riding, VA.
Island Lutheran has been the recipient of so many of your wonderful talents. We know volunteerism is a huge part of your lives. Please tell us about what you do outside of ILC.
Bob: I volunteer at the Bargain Box, (thanks to John Graudin), and the Hilton Head Hospital in the Emergency Dept. I find both efforts very rewarding.
Jen: I volunteer at Hilton Head Elementary School with the Van Landingham Rotary Reader Program. Many of you are familiar with the program, so no need for details. I enjoy reading too, and especially being read to by my two students. The sessions each week are spirited.
What are your hobbies? What do you do just for fun?
Bob: As I approach the tender age of 80 (April 11), my hobbies have dwindled.
Jen: Hobbies, what's that?
Both: We are active in the University of Michigan Alumni Club here on the island, of course our church - mainly the bi-monthly Bible Study Group, and the Men's Bible Study Group on Thursday mornings. We enjoy dinners out, beach walks, computer efforts, and certain TV programs (Turner Classic Movies), and of course our Detroit sports teams. Traveling is out - been there done that over the years - enough. Or as one of our English friends said: "I've had sufficient."
Tell us a little about your walk with God....have you always been involved in the church, etc.? What inspires you to be who you are?
Both: We have been involved with Lutheran Churches since we were married in 1955. Together, we have held just about every office in the church and hope we can continue to help in some capacity. What inspires us to be who we are? Well, we would definitely say our dear Christian friends whom we have met over the years have contributed to be "who we are." Our pastors from the past, and our present pastor, Pastor Hollis, have inspired us over the years. And last, but not least - the Good Lord. Amen!
